India Beat West Indies by Eight Wickets in First T20
Shreyas Iyer hit 102 not out off 43 balls as India chased 171 with 32 balls to spare and took an eight-wicket win.
- On Tuesday, Captain Shreyas Iyer smashed his maiden T20I century to lead India to an eight-wicket victory over West Indies at Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, finishing unbeaten on 102 runs off 43 balls.
- All-Rounder Naman Dhir impressed on his T20I debut with figures of 3/31, helping India restrict West Indies to 171 despite skipper Shai Hope's early assault of four boundaries in the second over.
- Sherfane Rutherford added 56 runs off 34 balls, while Hope scored 52 off 37 before departing; West Indies slipped to 114 for 5 in 12.3 overs when Kuldeep Yadav trapped Roston Chase lbw.
- Iyer became the third Indian captain after Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav to score a century in this format, striking ten boundaries and six sixes during his dominance with Ishan Kishan in a 137-run partnership.
- Coincidentally, Iyer had scored his maiden Indian Premier League century at the same venue earlier this year for Punjab Kings against Lucknow Super Giants, establishing Ekana as a venue of personal significance.
