Medical deserts: the beginning of the end of the freedom of installation for doctors?

On Wednesday, 2 April, shortly before midnight, the National Assembly voted in favour of regulating medical facilities, a flagship measure of the trans-party bill against medical deserts.

MEPs voted at first reading on the night of Wednesday until Thursday, an article which aims to ban the new facilities of liberal doctors in the towns sufficiently provided for the benefit of medical deserts.

The representatives of the liberal doctors of Corsica are concerned about the consequences of the Garot bill, aimed at regulating their installation in the territory. They denounce "counterproductive" provisions which would add an additional "stress" to the specifics of island health.

Socialist deputy Guillaume Garot recalls that six million French people are without a doctor, and eight million live in a medical desert, illustrating a worrying inequality.
