The Keene Police Department said they were called just after 6:30 a.m. by a neighbor who reported hearing what they believed were two gunshots on Wilford Street. The caller said they saw a man leaving the area with what appeared to be a rifle.

The sounds of what was likely an air rifle firing were what prompted the temporary closure of part of Washington Street early Wednesday morning, Keene police said in a news release that afternoon.
