Shorter unemployment benefits mainly affect those aged 55 and over: 'Measure costs unemployed an average of €8,500 per year'
The government's plan to shorten the duration of unemployment benefits by six months will mainly affect people aged 55 and over. This is according to CNV chairman Piet Fortuin. According to the union, 65,000 long-term unemployed people will be hit hard financially by the measure. On average, this will cost them €8,500 per year, "but if you're unlucky, it will be much more".
