Shooting Worlds: Elavenil Valarivan finishes sixth, no quota place for India in air rifle events
India added a silver in the women’s 10m air rifle team event, but Elavenil Valarivan finished sixth in the final and missed a quota spot.
On Tuesday, India secured team medals at the ISSF World Championship in Doha, Qatar, winning gold in the men's 50m pistol and silver in the women's 10m air rifle.
Ravinder Singh, Saurabh Chaudhary, and Amanpreet Singh scored 1659-24x to claim the men's pistol title, while the women's rifle team of Elavenil Valarivan, Sonam Maskar, and Shambhavi Kshirsagar aggregated 1894.4 points for silver.
Qualifying third with 634.2 points, Elavenil reached the individual 10m air rifle final but finished sixth with 167.3 points, missing a crucial LA 2028 Olympic quota place.
Despite the team successes, Indian shooters missed out on securing any LA 2028 Olympic quotas in Doha, as the men's 10m air rifle team failed to qualify for the finals.
The ISSF World Championship continues until November 14, with 36 total LA 2028 Olympic quota places available across 12 individual events, offering further opportunities for participating nations.
