Sharangovich Breaks Late Tie as the Flames End the Hurricanes’ 7-Game Winning Streak
Morgan Frost had a goal and an assist, and Devin Cooley stopped 34 shots as Calgary earned its first home win of the season.
On Sunday, the Calgary Flames defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2 at Scotiabank Saddledome, ending the visitors' seven-game winning streak. Yegor Sharangovich scored the go-ahead goal in the third period, while Morgan Frost added one goal and one assist.
Goaltender Devin Cooley made 34 saves to anchor Calgary's defense, rebounding from a difficult start 10 days ago when Colorado beat him seven times on 30 shots. Afterward, he urged everyone to "chill out" regarding the team's goaltending.
Matvei Gridin scored his first goal of the season, and Frost added a power-play tally in his 400th NHL game. Despite goals from Carolina's Jesperi Kotkaniemi and Jalen Chatfield, Calgary controlled the final frame with a 12-1 shot advantage.
Securing their second win of the season, the Flames improved to 2-6-0, while the Hurricanes dropped to 7-2-1. Gridin said, "If we beat the Stanley Cup champions, we can beat every team," reflecting newfound confidence.
Carolina visits the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday night to continue its road trip. Meanwhile, Calgary hosts the Minnesota Wild on Thursday, aiming to build momentum after securing their first home victory this season.
