Shapiro launches super PAC as presidential speculation mounts
The new federal PAC lets Shapiro directly support four Pennsylvania House candidates as he builds a national profile and eyes a possible 2028 presidential run.
On Friday, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro launched New Path PAC, a federal political action committee designed to support four Democratic candidates in Pennsylvania's 1st, 7th, 8th, and 10th Congressional Districts.
Federal campaign finance laws prevent Shapiro from transferring his $60 million state-level war chest to federal races, making the new PAC necessary to directly support Democratic congressional candidates.
Political observers view the launch as Shapiro's "strongest signal yet" of a 2028 presidential run, mirroring recent federal PAC creations by Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and other prospective Democratic candidates.
During a debate last week, Shapiro declined to pledge a full four-year term as governor, insisting his "lone focus" remains flipping the House while attacking Donald Trump's "chaos, cruelty, and corruption."
Marshall Cohen, the PAC's executive director, stated the committee aims to help elect leaders who will "place a check on Donald Trump" and secure a Congressional majority this November.
