- Shah Rukh Khan received his first-ever National Film Award for Best Actor this year for his performance in Atlee's Jawan, released September 2023.
- The ceremony named winners including Shah Rukh Khan and Vikrant Massey, who shared Best Actor for Jawan and 12th Fail, which also won Best Feature Film, while Rani Mukerji won Best Actress for Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway.
- Shah Rukh Khan flew in from Poland to accept the award from President Droupadi Murmu, blew a flying kiss, helped Rani Mukerji with her saree, and Gauri Khan announced she will design a special mantle.
- The 71st National Film Awards ceremony on September 23 also honoured Mohanlal with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, highlighting Shah Rukh Khan's impact after over 80 films.
