More than 310,000 without Power in Southeast Michigan After Severe Storms
DTE said more than 2,600 storm crews and 800 out-of-state workers are restoring service after storms cut power to 116,000 customers.
More than 310,000 DTE Energy customers in Metro Detroit lost electricity Thursday evening following intense thunderstorms that swept across Southeast Michigan on Wednesday and Thursday.
Multiple tornado warnings triggered across Southeast Michigan as severe thunderstorms developed; the National Weather Service confirmed an EF-0 tornado touched down in St. Clair County with estimated winds of 75 mph.
DTE deployed more than 2,600 storm response team members to repair damage, with another 800 field team members from outside Michigan arriving to accelerate restoration efforts.
Schools closed and roads blocked with fallen trees and flooding disrupted community operations; officials urged residents to remain at least 25 feet away from downed power lines, assuming any line is live and dangerous.
Starting Saturday, sunny conditions should return to the Detroit area with highs around 80 degrees through Monday, according to the NWS forecast.
