Sgt. Benjamin Pennington died from wounds sustained in an Iranian attack at Prince Sultan Air Base, marking the seventh U.S. military death since the conflict began, CENTCOM reports.
- On Sunday, Benjamin Pennington, 26, of Glendale, Kentucky, died from wounds received in an enemy attack at Prince Sultan Air Base, the Defense Department said.
- Amid the regionwide assault known as Operation Epic Fury, the incident occurred during Iran's initial attacks across the Middle East tied to the campaign, which has been linked to more than a half dozen U.S. military casualties.
- Assigned to 1st Space Battalion, 1st Space Brigade under USASMDC at Fort Carson, Colorado, Pennington enlisted in 2017 as a 92Y supply specialist and will be posthumously promoted to Staff Sergeant.
- Gov. Andy Beshear confirmed Pennington's death on social media, called him a hero and asked Kentuckians to pray for the family, while local leaders expressed grief as he is the first Kentuckian killed in the war.
- The Department of War says the incident is under investigation, and earlier strikes in Kuwait killed six U.S. soldiers, leaving eight 'seriously' injured.
