A group of 30 women were kidnapped by pro-independence rebels nearly four days ago in western Cameroon, which has been bloodied for more than six years by a conflict between separatists from the English-speaking minority and the security forces, according to authorities.
The west of the country has been bloodied for more than six years by a conflict between the army and separatists, which has caused more than 6,000 deaths and at least 1 million displaced.
According to authorities, dozens of women have fallen into the hands of English-speaking rebels in northwestern Cameroon. Some of them are also said to have been mistreated. The army is working on a liberation operation.
Before being abducted, these “elderly” women organized a “peaceful march to protest (...) against the exactions and criminal activities of terrorists”, the authorities explained.
