Multiple recalls of contaminated baby formula traced to shared supplier
Contamination traced to a shared supplier caused recalls by Nestle and Danone, affecting batches in multiple countries with one batch sold in the UK, FSA said.
- Danone and Nestle confirmed separate recalls this month tied to a single third-party ingredient supplier, with Danone recalling Aptamil on January 23, 2026, and Nestle recalling SMA earlier this month.
- Irish authorities reported detections in arachidonic acid oil imported from China, with cereulide toxin produced by Bacillus cereus found in the supplied ingredient, the FSA said on Friday.
- Because cereulide resists heat treatment, it can remain in finished formula products as Bacillus cereus spores survive in dry ingredients and produce cereulide during handling or processing.
