Sensex plunges 1,124 points, Nifty below 22,800; PSU bank, realty stocks among top losers

- The 30-share BSE Sensex plunged 1124.02 points or 1.52 per cent to settle at 72,771.72, while NSE Nifty fell 360.25 points or 1.56 per cent to 22,780.25.
- Broader markets also weakened; the BSE MidCap Select Index shed 1.39 per cent and the BSE SmallCap Select Index fell 1.90 per cent, while the Indian Rupee fell 0.19 per cent to 96.00.
- During the day, the Benchmark hit a high of 73,740.85 and a low of 72,716.23, gyrating 1,024.62 points and underscoring persistent volatility.
