Markets Extended Losing Streak as Sensex Falls 243 Points, Nifty Ends Below 22,750, Titan Drops 2.72%
Titan fell 2.72% as 18 of 30 Sensex stocks ended lower and foreign investor selling kept pressure on Indian shares.
- India's benchmark indices fell as foreign investors continued selling, with the BSE Sensex declining 242.65 points or 0.33 per cent to 72,529.07 and the NSE Nifty falling 64.05 points or 0.28 per cent to 22,716.20 amid volatile crude prices.
- Volatile crude prices and persistent Foreign Institutional Investor outflows pressured markets, while rising bond yields and a stronger Dollar Index kept pressure on the Indian rupee trading near 95.97, up about 0.10 per cent.
- Nifty Auto fell 1.33 per cent while Nifty Metal gained 0.78 per cent, showing sectoral divergence; among 30 Sensex companies, Adani Ports gained 4.39 per cent while Titan fell 2.72 per cent, with 12 closing in green and 18 in red.
- The broader market ended mixed as the BSE MidCap Select Index dropped 175.42 points or 0.99 per cent while the BSE SmallCap Select Index added 22.39 points or 0.25 per cent, signalling fragile sentiment. Ponmudi, CEO of Enrich Money, said the market's near-term bias remains weak.
- Meaningful market stabilisation requires greater clarity on crude oil prices and more consistent foreign investor flows, as the decline reflects digestion of previous weakness rather than fresh domestic triggers. Only 17 of 50 Nifty companies closed in green with 32 in red.
