The Styrian reptile expert Werner Stangl and his team in the Obersteiermark found an absolute sensation: In fact, they discovered several specimens of a crossing from the endangered horn viper and cross otter – something unthinkable to date!
Heta photographed a snake on the shore of her cottage that was different from the others. Beach snakes are familiar cottage neighbors in Siikainen, but this summer a new, blond individual has strayed into the crowd. “It was there next to the pier with other beach snakes,” says Iltalehti reader Heta Heikkilä, who spotted the newcomer at her cottage.
A spectacular find causes a sensation in the professional world: for the first time, several specimens of a completely new snake species were discovered in the western Obersteiermark – a cross between horn viper and cross otter.
