Senegal to appeal CAF Africa Cup of Nations decision after team stripped of title

Senegal's Football Federation has authorized legal action at the Court of Arbitration for Sport after CAF awarded the 2025 AFCON title to Morocco by forfeit.

  • On Thursday, the Senegalese Football Federation announced it instructed lawyers to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport at a Dakar press conference on March 19, 2026.
  • After studying Morocco's appeal, CAF announced it had reversed Senegal's win Tuesday, recording the result as 3-0 in favor of Morocco.
  • On January 18 in Rabat, the final saw Senegalese players walk off after a late penalty award, but captain Sadio Mané coaxed them back, Morocco missed the penalty, and Pape Gueye scored in extra time.
  • Domestic reaction was immediate, with Senegalese fans and authorities calling for an investigation, while Abdoulaye Fall said, 'Senegal will remain standing and will legitimately defend this victory on the field which we acquired on the field with the talent of our players'.
  • The Senegalese Football Federation executive committee said it would 'use all possible legal, institutional and jurisdictional means to assert its rights', as the dispute moves toward international arbitration at CAS, with FRMF defending CAF's decision.
