Hegseth Visits Sierra Nevada in Dayton to Promote U.S. Defense Manufacturing
The Defense Secretary praised Sierra Nevada’s $13 billion contract and its investment in new hangars as the company prepares to replace aging E-4B aircraft.
On Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2026, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth visited Sierra Nevada Corporation at Dayton International Airport to promote the E-4C Survivable Airborne Operations Center modernization program.
Sierra Nevada Corp. won a $13 billion Air Force contract in 2024 to replace the aging E-4B Nightwatch "Doomsday" fleet, converting four Boeing 747-8i jetliners into the modern E-4C variant.
SNC invested $100 million into four 90,000-square-foot hangars to support the program, while Hegseth argued the "Department of War" is "leaving yesterday's bureaucracy behind" to accelerate delivery timelines.
The Dayton facility generates 60% of SNC's revenue and employs over 400 workers, with Hegseth telling the assembly, "Never forget the direct line you have to those on the front line."
Seeking a $1.5 trillion military investment to maintain global superiority, Hegseth also visited a machining operation in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, stressing that defense supply chains are only as strong as their weakest critical subcomponent.
