Sean Keeler: Not sure Broncos’ Davis Webb will fly with Sean Payton, Bo Nix? Just ask his high school coach.
A former high school coach says Webb’s work habits stood out, but the column questions whether that approach will translate in Denver’s quarterback plans.
On Monday, The Denver Post DENVER reported that former coach Kent Scott questioned whether Davis Webb fits the requirements for professional success, evaluating the quarterback's potential in a new system.
Throwing 36 touchdowns during his grad-transfer season, Webb's unconventional route included early entry and completing undergraduate work. He was later drafted by a new program after leaving his previous school.
According to Scott, the quarterback was 'just a worker physically, a worker mentally,' demonstrating notable mental toughness during drills. The coach emphasized that he experienced challenges in his response to adversity.
Disagreements about the quarterback's abilities emerged among former coaches, though Scott praised his adaptability after switching schools. He noted, 'I got a really good football player, to boot.'
Webb faces an uncertain future after an ankle injury opened opportunities for other players. He must now prove he can execute the team's offensive demands under his new system.
