Scottish 'mafia boss' can be extradited to Spain, Dutch court rules
Spanish investigators say Lyons laundered about €26 million as the court rejected his challenge and approved extradition.
The Amsterdam District Court ordered 46-year-old crime boss Steven Lyons to be surrendered to Spain on Thursday to face organised crime and money-laundering charges.
Spanish Civil Guard investigators leading Operation Armorum claim Lyons laundered around €26 million over two years, with 14 of his associates arrested across four countries.
After being expelled from Dubai, Lyons was detained in Bali at the end of March on an Interpol Red Notice before repatriation to the Netherlands.
Lawyer Arne Kloosterman argued the transfer from Indonesia exceeded authority, claiming the Bali capture resembled "a kidnapping," but the Amsterdam District Court rejected these procedural objections.
Amanda Lyons, the crime boss's wife, was arrested in the Middle East following the international probe, while eight men were detained in Scotland as part of wider organised crime investigations.
