Charity opens walk-in mental health hub in Glasgow
The Nook offers barrier-free, immediate mental health support with no waiting lists as part of a £10 million plan to open multiple hubs across Scotland.
- On Thursday, Scottish Action for Mental Health opened The Nook in Glasgow, the first of a Scotland-wide network of walk-in mental health hubs.
- The hubs aim to provide immediate support for people experiencing mental health problems, with SAMH saying those facing barriers to care should be able to ask once and get help fast.
- The Nook will be open seven days a week and those seeking support can walk in and speak to the team at Brunswick House, SAMH headquarters on Wilson Street, while SAMH chief executive Billy Watson said the charity is cutting through red tape.
- Hubs are planned for Aberdeen, Lanarkshire, Edinburgh and Inverclyde, and SAMH launched a major appeal with a £10 million target to fund them for three years.
- Shona Littlejohn, chairwoman of SAMH, said Scotland is in a mental health crisis and called The Nook a bold, innovative response, while Lucy Main, young people's panel member, said it would have helped her as a child.
