Jenny Gilruth Appointed Deputy First Minister of Scotland as Swinney Reshuffles Top Team
She replaces Kate Forbes as Swinney reshapes his top team after the SNP won 58 seats in this month’s election.
First Minister John Swinney appointed Jenny Gilruth as Deputy First Minister and Finance Secretary on Wednesday, positioning her as central to his streamlined Cabinet.
Swinney began filling Cabinet gaps following the retirement of key ministers including Finance Secretary Shona Robison and Kate Forbes, who left Holyrood at this month's election.
With a record of averting damaging teachers' strikes earlier this year, Gilruth will "play a central role" in delivering government priorities, Swinney stated.
Cabinet appointments, including former MP Stephen Flynn, face a confirmatory vote in Holyrood on Thursday, finalizing the administration's new team.
The administration's primary goals for Scotland include tackling the cost of living crisis, improving access to the NHS, and delivering a "fresh start with independence.
