Barrister Salman Safdar was appointed to inspect Imran Khan’s jail conditions and report by tomorrow amid PTI claims of rights violations and health concerns.
- Today the Supreme Court allowed Salman Safdar, Barrister and PTI counsel, to meet Imran Khan, PTI founder and former prime minister, at Adiala Jail and declared him amicus curiae with access to his barracks for a written response.
- Earlier SC orders dating to August 24, 2023 require a report because PTI's memorandum last week alleged violations of Imran's rights and a secretive medical procedure, and the court said post-August 24, 2023 filings were unsatisfactory.
- The bench led by CJP Yahya Afridi limited the report to living conditions only, after Safdar asked about health details, and the court observed it could not pass such an order without hearing the other side.
- The Supreme Court of Pakistan issued a notice to the government today, directing Safdar to visit Adiala jail and submit a report by tomorrow, February 11.
- Imran has been jailed since Aug 5, 2023, and Kasim Khan and Sulaiman Khan describe Adiala's conditions as 'awful' and 'substandard', fueling protests and scrutiny over his detention.
