Saudi Arabia Unveils T20 League in October
The six-team event is expected to feature recently retired players, with salaries reported at up to $100,000.
Saudi Arabia will host its first franchise tournament, the Dunes League T20, in October, featuring matches in Taif and sanctioned by the Saudi Arabia Cricket Federation .
Seeking to diversify its economy, Saudi Arabia has invested heavily in high-profile sports including football, tennis, and boxing, with the Public Investment Fund previously launching the breakaway LIV Golf tour.
Developed with the Sports Asian Network and talent agencies Unique Sports Group and Prolithic, the league targets recently retired players with salaries potentially reaching up to $100,000.
The competition, dubbed the "Grand Slam Of Cricket," follows a tennis-style format, with the project involving SRJ Sports Investments, led by Danny Townsend.
While the SACF previously partnered with the UAE's ILT20 and FairBreak Women's T20 Challenge, organizers designed this event to "develop Saudi talent" while limiting Full-Member international players below the ICC threshold.
While IPL 2026 is currently underway, Saudi Arabia is about to make a major move into the world of cricket. The country's first franchise-based T20 league, the "Dunes T20 League," will be held in the second week of October this year. Yuvraj Singh will be its ambassador.
