Remembering B Saroja Devi: A Shining Star Beyond Borders
BENGALURU, INDIA, JUL 14 – B Saroja Devi acted in over 200 films across five languages and held a record for 161 consecutive lead roles, earning prestigious awards including the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan.
The legendary actress B Saroja Devi, also known as Abhinaya Saraswati, died on July 14, 2025, at her home in Malleswaram, Bengaluru, at the age of 87.
Her death followed age-related illnesses, ending a career that began with her 1955 Kannada debut film Mahakavi Kalidasa.
Saroja Devi acted in over 200 films across Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi, including notable works with M.G. Ramachandran and Sivaji Ganesan.
She received the Padma Shri in 1969, Padma Bhushan in 1992, and the 2008 Lifetime Achievement Award for her contribution to Indian cinema.
Tributes from celebrities and politicians called her an icon whose passing marks the end of an era and a tremendous loss to Indian cinema.
