Man Dies, Woman and 2 Children Injured During IAF Helicopter Relief Operation in Flood-Hit Bihar
Police said 3,32,000 people were affected in 170 flood-hit villages as officials air-dropped ration packets and awaited a post-mortem to confirm the death cause.
On Friday, 58-year-old Anil Kumar Singh died in Bihar's Saran district while collecting flood-relief material air-dropped from a helicopter, officials reported Saturday.
Widespread flooding in the Gandak River region prompted the administration to initiate air-drops, affecting 170 villages and around 75,286 families across seven blocks in Saran.
Amnour SHO Vimlesh Kumar cited conflicting accounts from residents: some alleged Singh was hit by the falling packet, while others suggested he died of a heart attack.
Officials noted the body showed no external injury marks, and an autopsy report is pending to determine the exact cause of death.
Currently, Forty-eight NDRF and SDRF teams are conducting rescue operations, having distributed 2,650 food packets to support the 3.32 lakh people impacted by ongoing Gandak flooding.
An Air Force helicopter was dropping relief supplies for flood victims in Parshurampur village, under the Amnour police station area of Saran district. A dry ration packet fell on 60-year-old Anil Kumar Singh, alias Appu Singh, and killed him. Angry villagers blocked the road with the body, which was cleared after police and officials persuaded them.
