Tottenham Signs Tonali From Newcastle for Club-Record Fee to Take Summer Spending to More than $300M
Spurs have already spent more than £230 million this summer as they rebuild a midfield that struggled last season.
On Monday, Tottenham Hotspur announced the club-record signing of Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali in a deal worth up to £100million, with the 26-year-old signing a six-year contract.
Spurs will pay £92.5million up front with £7.5million in add-ons, pushing total summer spending beyond £230million following the earlier £85million arrival of Mateus Fernandes from West Ham.
After making 110 appearances and scoring ten goals for Newcastle since summer 2023, Tonali departs enabling Eddie Howe to rebuild following the squad's disappointing 12th-place Premier League finish.
Roberto De Zerbi called Tonali "a special player and a great signing for our club," while the midfielder said: "It was like magic because I knew immediately that I had to sign for Tottenham."
Looking to complete their squad, Spurs target a striker and left-side attacker to bolster depth after narrowly avoiding relegation last season and securing two major signings this summer.
