Sam Kieth, Influential Comic Book Artist Who Created ‘The Maxx,’ Dies at 63

Sam Kieth, creator of The Maxx, died on March 15 at age 63 after suffering from Lewy Body Dementia, confirmed by Scott Dunbier.
Born on January 11, 1963, Sam Kieth began his comics career at 17 with Comico and co-created Sandman with Neil Gaiman, drawing its first five issues for DC Comics.
Kieth created The Maxx in 1993 for Image Comics, adapted into MTV Liquid Television; McFarlane produced related action figures, and Kieth also made Arkham Dreams for DC Comics.
Kieth retired from mainstream comics after 'Arkham Dreams,' and his death from Lewy Body Dementia was confirmed by Scott Dunbier on March 15.
Across publishers Kieth built a career that spanned mainstream and indie comics, including Wildstorm, Oni Press, DC, Marvel, and animation projects like the 'No Smoking' pilot for Cow and Chicken and 'Take It to the Limit' for Roger Corman's Concorde-New Horizons.
