Salvation Army Bell Ringer Tries to Impale Florida Publix Manager with Donation Tripod, Deputies Say

- On Dec. 24, Salvation Army bell ringer Steven Pavlik, 63, allegedly tried to impale the Publix manager with a donation kettle tripod outside the Kanner Highway store in Stuart.
- Witnesses said Pavlik was intoxicated on duty and confronting customers, prompting the Publix manager to come outside to address his behavior.
- Deputies said Pavlik became violent and allegedly tried to impale the manager with the donation kettle tripod, while witnesses described an attempt to `spear` the manager in the chest; the manager was not injured.
- He fled the scene and deputies from the Martin County Sheriff's Office later located Pavlik at his residence, where he was taken into custody and transported to the Martin County Jail.
- At a Salvation Army collection site outside a Publix, Pavlik had volunteered since Thanksgiving and collected donations during the holiday season, the Martin County Sheriff's Office said.
