Sairaj Bahutule Appointed India Spin-Bowling Coach Ahead of Afghanistan Test
Bahutule brings 188 First-Class wickets and coaching experience with India Under-19, India A and IPL sides, the BCCI said.
On Tuesday, the BCCI appointed former India leg-spinner Sairaj Bahutule as the Indian Men's Cricket Team's new spin-bowling coach ahead of their one-off Test match against Afghanistan in New Chandigarh beginning June 6.
Bahutule brings vast experience, having served as Head Coach for Vidarbha, Kerala, Gujarat, and Bengal, alongside work with India's Under-19 and A teams and the National Cricket Academy.
Representing India in two Tests and eight ODIs between 1997 and 2003, the leg-spinner claimed 630 wickets in 188 First-Class matches, 197 scalps in 143 List A games, and scored over 6000 First-Class runs.
In his new role, Bahutule joins Head Coach Gautam Gambhir's staff, working alongside batting coach Sitanshu Kotak, fast-bowling coach Morne Morkel, fielding coach T Dilip, and assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate.
The Asian Giants have lost two of their last three Test series, including defeats to New Zealand and South Africa, making this Afghanistan Test the team's first red-ball assignment after IPL 2026's conclusion.
