'Saint Rat' Rises Again: Seattle Weighs Rules for Graffiti Worth Saving

SEATTLE, WASHINGTON, JUL 11 – Seattle plans fines up to $1,500 per illegal graffiti violation and aims to create dedicated mural spaces to reduce $6 million in annual cleanup costs, officials said.

(The Center Square) – Seattle City Councilmember Joy Hollingsworth wants to balance crackdowns on illegal graffiti with beautifying public spaces, after a popular “Hot Rat Summer” mural was painted over.
