Tendulkar Suggests IPL Rule Overhauls to Balance Bat and Ball
Sachin Tendulkar said 200 is sometimes below par in the IPL and urged rule changes to restore balance between bat and ball.
Batting legend Sachin Tendulkar called for the Impact Player rule to be scrapped, citing an imbalance between bat and ball in the Indian Premier League during the Cricinfo Honours.
Since the introduction of the Impact Player rule, big-hitting has reached unprecedented levels in T20 cricket. A score of 200, once a sign of strength, now often proves below-par this season.
Tendulkar proposed splitting the six-over powerplay into four batting overs and two bowling overs, allowing fielding captains to deploy the bowling phase at any stage for tactical flexibility.
He also proposed allowing one bowler to bowl five overs instead of four, arguing that top batters face 20 overs during innings. "Wouldn't you want to see your best bowler bowling more?" Tendulkar asked.
India captain Shubman Gill and former skipper Rohit Sharma have criticized the rule, arguing it diminishes all-rounder value. Notably, the Impact Player rule has not been applied in international T20s.
