‘You Will Save a Life’: Edmonton Sexual Assault Centre Launches Campaign to Support Survivors
The campaign seeks donations and public education as SACE says demand for counselling, crisis support and prevention services is outpacing resources.
On Monday, May 4, 2026, the Sexual Assault Centre of Edmonton launched the 'Out in the Open' campaign to address growing demand for survivor support services during Sexual Violence Awareness Month.
Nearly half of all Albertans will experience sexual violence in their lifetime, creating a significant gap between survivors seeking support and available resources to respond.
Hundreds of plush teddy bears adorned with teal ribbons represent survivors waiting for specialized support, bringing the issue of sexual violence into public view.
Co-CEO Lena Betker said, "This campaign is about making the invisible visible," emphasizing that action and prevention are central to ending sexual violence.
Community members can support the campaign throughout May by buying or sponsoring a bear, donating directly to SACE, or sharing the message on social media.
