Sabalenka to face Rybakina in blockbuster Miami Open semi-final
- On Wednesday, world number one Aryna Sabalenka and second-ranked Elena Rybakina advanced to the Miami Open semi-finals. They will face each other Thursday night at Hard Rock Stadium, home of the NFL's Miami Dolphins.
- Defending champion Sabalenka defeated American Hailey Baptiste 6-4, 6-4, while Rybakina overcame American Jessica Pegula 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 in their quarter-final matches. Both secured semi-final spots with straight-set or comeback victories on Wednesday.
- Sabalenka maintains a 9-7 career edge over Rybakina, who is seeded third. "The rhythm, the heaviness of her shots is incredible," Sabalenka said of her opponent.
- The Belarusian avenged her Australian Open final loss with a victory in the Indian Wells final this month. Sabalenka is now two wins away from completing the "Sunshine Double" of Indian Wells and Miami.
- "We've been playing a lot of matches, recently actually, and all of them have been a battle," Sabalenka told the Tennis Channel. The rivals prepare for their high-stakes semi-final encounter.
