Ryanair passenger numbers rise by 7% to record high
The airline said lower fares and higher jet fuel costs cut after-tax profit to 538 million euro as passenger demand hit a July record.
Ryanair carried a record 22.2 million passengers in July, up 7% year-on-year, yet reported a 34% drop in quarterly profits to €538 million for the three months ending June.
Quarterly profits slumped as jet fuel prices doubled because of the Iran war, while the airline implemented a 6% drop in average fares to boost demand.
On a 12-month rolling basis, the airline transported 213.2 million passengers, a 5% rise, while recently surpassing 7 million passengers at Belfast International Airport since 2016.
Germany's Lufthansa cut its profit outlook on Tuesday and warned higher jet fuel costs could reduce earnings this year, sending shares down more than 10%.
Price-Sensitive passengers are booking later, with only about 40% of September seats sold, as investors monitor the European sector's ability to cope with sustained fuel-price volatility.
