Demonstrations against the internet shutdown were planned for Moscow and other Russian regions over the weekend. However, authorities intervened and banned the gathering. Five organizers of the event were detained by police and sentenced to 15 days in prison.
Moscow - Russian police have detained five members of the Red Swan movement who asked authorities for permission to hold a demonstration in Moscow this Sunday against the internet shutdown, accused them of disobeying police orders and sentenced them to 15 days in prison, The Moscow Times reported. Authorities have also banned all rallies planned for Sunday in Russian regions.
