Pianist and anti-war activist Pavel Kusnir died in a Russian detention prison in Birobidzhan in the Far East as a result of a hunger strike, BBC News reported, citing comments from the activist's mother, Irina Levinova. The Russian version of the online encyclopedia Wikipedia named the 39-year-old Kushnir as the first political prisoner in Russia to lose his life on hunger strike.
He was imprisoned in May 2024, accused of “calling for terrorism”. His death, the result of a hunger strike according to his mother, was not officially announced.
