Russia says it downed 142 Ukrainian drones, including 27 over Moscow region
RUSSIA, JUL 21 – Russia’s air defence shot down 142 Ukrainian drones overnight, disrupting Moscow’s airports and causing over 140 flight cancellations, officials said.

- July has seen both sides expand long-range drone strikes amid stalled ceasefire talks, according to Russian and Ukrainian sources.
- The interceptions took place over at least nine Russian regions, with occupied Crimea and the Black Sea, according to Russia’s defence ministry.
- Flight disruptions rippled through Moscow’s airports as drones struck overhead, and Russia’s aviation watchdog Rosaviatsia reported 134 flights were redirected at Sheremetyevo, Vnukovo, Domodedovo and Zhukovskiy.
- The most intense barrage saw 93 drones downed between 11:30 p.m. and 7 a.m., and Russia’s defence ministry said this marked one of the highest-volume drone operations to date.
