Russia is not preparing for a major breakthrough on the Ukrainian front this summer, but is keeping the tension up to force peace talks on its own terms. The actions of the past six months show that Russia's economy can no longer afford a long war, experts say.

Russia will continue its "special military operation" against Ukraine until the root causes of the conflict are eliminated and legally solid peace agreements are reached that are ratified by parliaments, Andrei Kartapolov, chairman of the Russian State Duma's defense committee, said on the Russian Channel One program.
