Russia rolling out Starlink-style network faster than expected, Kyiv says
Ukraine says Russia has launched 16 satellites and plans 292 by 2027 as it races to build a Starlink-style network.
- On Monday, August 10, Major General Vadym Skibitskyi warned that Russia is accelerating deployment of its Rassvet satellite communications network, a domestic alternative to Starlink.
- Developed by Bureau 1440, Rassvet is a low-Earth-orbit broadband network providing high-speed connectivity, with Russia planning to reach a full constellation by 2027.
- Commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces Robert "Madyar" Brovdi called it a "risk for the entire planet," warning that "a dictatorship will gain access to information across the whole globe."
