Online censorship and surveillance in Russia have doubled since the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Human Rights Watch (HRW) noted Wednesday in a new report. Russian authorities are increasingly blocking what they consider undesirable websites, such as those of independent media outlets, or disrupting the internet "to protect public safety." This must stop, the human rights organization believes.
