Longtime Alabama sports clothing brand closing distribution with 80 layoffs
A company with Alabama origins for more than 120 years is now consolidating its business and closing its distribution operations in the same city it was founded in.Russell Athletic will no longer operate at the Fruit of the Loom distribution center in Alexander City, the company said in notices filed with the state and city. The sports apparel brand is moving out of its home city at the end of September.

Russell Brands plans to close its distribution center in Alexander City next month. The Alabama Department of Commerce announced the closure, which will result in 80 job losses.
