Rugby Greats Gather for Celebration of Scott Hastings’ Life
Hundreds gathered to honor the former Scotland centre, whose 65 caps and charity work left a lasting mark on the rugby community.
On Saturday, members of the rugby community gathered at George Watson's College in Edinburgh to celebrate the life of Scott Hastings, the former Scotland and British and Irish Lions player who died on May 17.
Capped 65 times over 11 years, Hastings was a key member of the 1990 Grand Slam team and retired in 1997 as Scotland's most capped player, a record he still holds at centre.
Gavin Hastings led tributes, calling his sibling an "amazing brother" and "one in a million person," while Scottish Rugby Union president Keith Wallace described him as a "great man" whose contribution was "massive."
Attendees traveled from England, Wales, and France, demonstrating his global respect, as Gavin Hastings noted the family had "rallied round" following the 2024 death of Scott's wife, Jenny, which made recent years "incredibly tough."
Beyond rugby, Hastings championed causes including mental health and motor neurone disease, serving as the first chair of the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation, established following Doddie Weir's diagnosis in 2022.
