Rubio to Host G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Atlanta
The talks will focus on shipping routes, energy and food security, and supply chains as the United States seeks practical cooperation on shared risks.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio will host G20 foreign ministers in Atlanta on Friday and Saturday, October 30-31, to discuss economic cooperation and security challenges, the State Department announced Monday.
The State Department stated the United States intends to return the G20 to its core economic mission, noting that "global security and economic prosperity are inextricably linked" regarding upcoming international economic plans.
Discussions will address "geopolitical crises contributing to global economic shocks," including threats to freedom of navigation, energy and food security, and critical supply chains, the department added.
South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun plans to attend the meeting to discuss global challenges while seeking bilateral discussions with counterparts, including potential talks with Rubio regarding developments on the Korean Peninsula.
These talks serve as groundwork for the G20 Leaders' Summit scheduled for December 14-15 at Trump National Doral in Miami, where leaders will tackle President Donald Trump's broader international economic agenda.
