Raytheon Spends $100M Expanding Patriot System Factory
The expansion will accelerate LTAMDS testing and boost Patriot GEM-T production as Raytheon says demand is growing worldwide.
- On Monday, Raytheon announced a $100 million expansion of its Portsmouth, Rhode Island facility to accelerate LTAMDS testing and boost Patriot GEM-T production, creating 150 high-tech jobs.
- Raytheon has operated in Rhode Island for more than 60 years, currently employing more than 850 people; this investment follows an eight-month-old $53 million expansion in Andover, Massachusetts.
- The LTAMDS radar provides full 360-degree coverage to counter hypersonic weapons, replacing the legacy AN/MPQ-65 system, while Patriot GEM-T offers enhanced guidance against tactical ballistic missiles.
- Tom Laliberty, president of Land & Air Defense Systems at Raytheon, said the investment helps "ensure the U.S. Army and our international partners receive these systems as quickly as possible" amid surging global demand.
- Procurement orders from allies including Japan, Taiwan, and South Korea drive this expansion, which also supports European NATO members such as Germany, Poland, and Romania relying on Patriot systems.
