Rescued Dog Gives Birth to Record-Breaking Litter of Puppies

The rescue centre said Kila’s brood is its largest ever, and 11 surviving puppies will be ready for new homes from Sept. 28.

  • On August 3, five-year-old Cane Corso Kila gave birth to 14 puppies at the Chesterfield RSPCA Rescue, the largest litter ever recorded at the centre.
  • Volunteers rescued Kila from a property in Doncaster in July due to welfare concerns, unaware she was pregnant until a scheduled neutering appointment six days before birth.
  • The branch now cares for 21 puppies total after Susie, another rescued dog, gave birth to 10 pups on July 28, arriving just days before Kila's litter.
  • Although three of Kila's puppies did not survive, the surviving pups including Cedric, Clark, and Winnie will be ready for adoption beginning September 28.
  • Branch worker Chloe Gee said the team is "so proud to have beautiful, wiggly puppies," but the rescue is seeking donations of food and funds to support care.
