A portion of Route 9 in Spencer was closed down Tuesday evening as police swarmed the nearby Big Y shopping plaza to respond to a suspect who’d barricaded themselves inside a business, according to Massachusetts State Police. The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) posted on social media that Route 9 had been shut down between West Main Street and South Spencer Road around 7:15 p.m. It is unclear when the highway will reopen.
