Rough weather arrives on East Coast as Hurricane Melissa heads toward Newfoundland
Remnants of the strongest storm this year will bring gusty winds and heavy rain to the UK’s northwest with unsettled weather expected through mid-November, the Met Office said.
- Late on Sunday, Tom Crabtree said a low-pressure system containing ex-Hurricane Melissa's remnants will move across the far northwest of the UK, bringing gusty winds and heavy downpours.
- As a typical autumn low, Melissa's remnants are introducing milder air and rain, but forecasters caution uncertainty remains about its exact track and timing.
- Saturday is expected to bring bright spells and frequent blustery showers, some heavy and thundery, with temperatures peaking at 14°C, while Sunday morning should start bright with scattered showers and calmer conditions and temperatures dipping to 4°C.
- From Monday to Wednesday wet and windy conditions are expected, especially over the Moors, while temperatures remain near or slightly above average for early November.
- Between November 5 and November 14, low pressure is set to dominate, bringing showers and longer spells of rain across much of the country, with later in November a shift toward drier conditions possible if high pressure develops.
