Romania aims to buy Abrams tanks in $7 billion deal-defence ministry
BUCHAREST - Romania's defence ministry has asked parliament to approve a plan to acquire hundreds of Abrams tanks as well as ammunition, parts and training worth more than $7 billion, it said in a statement on Tuesday. Read more at straitstimes.com.
Romania will purchase 270 new tanks, within a contract that reaches nearly 8 billion euros without VAT. The Ministry of National Defence announced that it requested Parliament to initiate the award procedure for the “Central War Tanks”, Phase I (Phase 2) and II. The objective is to increase the operational capacity of the army to fulfil both the country's defence missions and international commitments, as well as a press release from MAPN.
