Police warn scammers pretending to be Rogers, Bell workers

Police say men, who identify themselves as employees who work for either Rogers or Bell, are showing up at people’s homes to offer fraudulent services.

Operators Vodafone, T-Mobile and O2 have jointly deployed a protection system against so-called spoofing, in which fraudsters pretend to be other people or institutions, such as banks and the police, on the phone and lure sensitive information. The protection is free for mobile and landline numbers. The Association of Mobile Network Operators announced this.

Guelph, Ont., police are warning residents to beware of scammers pretending to be employees of the telecommunications companies Rogers or Bell.
