Rocket Lab Pushes 1st Launch of Next-Gen Neutron Rocket to 2027
Rocket Lab said development risks and uncertainties pushed Neutron’s first flight to 2027.
On Oct 14, Rocket Lab Corporation announced the inaugural launch of its new Neutron rocket is delayed until 2027, adjusting the vehicle's development schedule.
Shares of RKLB fell about 6% in extended trading following the announcement, reflecting investor reaction to the delayed timeline for the new rocket.
Rocket Lab had previously targeted the inaugural flight for the fourth quarter of 2026, but adjusted goals in recent months to reach the launch pad by year-end rather than launch.
The Neutron rocket is central to Rocket Lab's strategy to compete for larger commercial satellite, civil-space, and national-security missions, positioning the company in a critical market segment.
Last month, Rocket Lab signed a multi-year agreement for 20 new missions with Tokyo-based Earth observation company Synspective, building on more than 1,700 missions powered in Earth orbit.
